“I am drawing this dragon for you, to hang it in your bedroom” – he said to me nonchalantly without looking up, focused on his task at hand. Taken by surprise, I stared at the blank sheet of paper. His drawing was happening easily and swiftly, with no hesitation his magic dragon emerged from the pencil in his hand. It looked so perfect, they both did. I adore these little moments of perfection when everything falls into place effortlessly. I was standing in awe watching them both come alive. I was curious to know where his dragon came from. Without a shadow of a doubt he answered: “From the mountains between Myanmar, Bhutan, Sichuan and Yunnan.” He said the dragon had a Chinese name that he couldn’t remember any more, but that didn’t seem to bother him in the least. “I will look it up on the internet and write it in Chinese for you” – he said confidently, as if he’s been writing Chinese his whole life. I wanted to laugh but didn’t, in respect of his remarkable confidence.

I asked about his dragon’s color. “He is green, but he doesn’t really have a color because he is an energy. Energy doesn’t really have color.” I chuckled and asked if the dragon is a rather good and kind energy or bad and evil. “Oh, that depends”, he replied. “The dragon is mainly kind though impressive. But he really really dislikes disrespect. If you are disrespectful, he can get very angry.” Phew, I was smart not to laugh at him earlier 🙂 . I wanted to know why he thought I needed a dragon in my bedroom. ” To protect you in your dreams. I always sleep with my dragon, he looks like a plush toy but he is alive you know. This is why I’m still keeping him with me every night. Dragons fly, they fly very high, they fly in dreams too. They can take you very very high, away from everything.” I asked him if he wasn’t afraid to be taken to such a high place away from everything. He shook his head in disbelief: “Afraid? Who would be afraid of being taken home?! Home is a beautiful place you know.” Well, I guess this young man wasn’t afraid to call home some place else… He watched me laugh my heart out for a few seconds, then he asked very seriously: “Why are you laughing?” I told him how I thought he was very brave to venture traveling so far in a dream land and that I was surprised to learn that he had a home somewhere else than where he was sitting and drawing the dragon for me. “If you sit on the dragon’s back, he will take you to visit many doors, and if you step beyond the doors you will visit many homes. I live in some of these homes. I like this one too but it’s not my favorite”.

In that very second I realized that since our earliest existence in this world, we are taught to think in terms of duality and  contradiction, where only ‘either / or’ makes sense and becomes our collective modus operandi. So here I am, being given a lesson in multilateral thinking and multidimensional existence by an 11 year old. How quickly I forgot these days when I had to explain, even to fellow shamans, my ability to access other realities without using shamanic drumming, breathing, hallucinogens  or any other such tools widely believed necessary to enter alternative worlds. I have an explanation, we are multidimensional beings perfectly capable of developing an awareness of our multidimensional existence. Imagine how different our world will be when we start seeing beyond the form, into the multidimensionality that is hidden behind. I bet you that we will outgrow the survival mechanism of the ego mind and all the troubles, illnesses and limitations that come with it in no time.

I believe that that ‘no time’ is soon or soon enough. Next time you find yourself at the end of a road thinking whether you should go left or right, remember that you can go left, right, straight on, backwards, sidewise, diagonally etc. Your possibilities are limitless and you may try all of them. This is where our free will lies, this is how we truly forge our destinies. Going left or going right is the decision of our ego mind, limiting our existence into the ‘either / or’ thinking, so often mistaken for free choice and free will. Our free will lies in our innate ability to live multiple existences simultaneously and decide which one we want to focus our energy on. Dragons live up in the skies, down at the bottom of the deepest oceans, left in the fires of the Earth, right inside the mountains, sideways lining our beds, diagonally in the dream land, watching us with their multiple heads stepping on the multitude of possible existences. You banish the dragons, you banish the heros inside of us. For only heroes embrace the fear of the unknown, with the fearless transparency of their true being, allowing the possibility of being transversed across the universes in multiple existences all intertwining into one destiny.
